How Much in Additional Donations Can Google Grants Give per Nonprofit?

By October 3, 2013Uncategorized

Google Grants is certainly proving to be the best option for many non-profits, but keep in mind, if you don’t use it you can lose it. That’s right, Google can and will suspend your Google ad status if you don’t use it once a month. The very thought of squandering up to $10,000 in free advertising is downright crazy and you can be sure that any for-profit company would tackle this opportunity and never let go.

The truth about Google traffic:

  • 90% of internet users do not go to the second page of a Google Search.
  • Just being on the first page is not enough anymore.
  • If you are not in the top 3 search results, 70% of user traffic will not click on your site.

This is a lot of work for any company to take on. Non-profits have somewhat of an advantage over most companies because they get results over a short amount of time. SEO is a long term strategy that is results driven

$10,000 in marketing money equals how much in additional donations per non profit?

If you get 5,000 people to your website per month and you have a donate button on your page, the normal conversion rate is 2%. So, 2% of your traffic results in any given conversion action, which in this case would equal 100 people. If the average donation is $10, that would equal $1,000 per month. That is $1,000 in free money each month, which can add up to $12,000 per year to be spent on your non-profit.

There is one step after adding your keywords and that is creating ads. Before you make your ads you will want to research your competition, which can be done by utilizing Spyfu. Spyfu is a website that allows you to research any company or business. Spyfu provides you with specific information about a company like,  how much they spend monthly, what ads they use, and what keywords they target.

Does Google Grants help you create ads?

Google Grants can help search and relating keywords to give you a leg up on how to create your ads, but for the most part it is up to you to come up with your own ad and sort of craft them to fit what is best for you. Google Grants provides you with the information, ideas, and inspiration, but you must put it all together. You can even copy and paste content from your website homepage. Believe it or not the content on your homepage makes for the best ads because the homepage is a synopsis of who you are and what your company does. You can simply take the content from your homepage and cut it down to a brief summary or choose specific words to use in your ad.

Why is Google Grants not more well known?

Non-profits are busy and have a lot going on from day to day. The truth is they don’t have the time to research SEO. It is true that smaller sized nonprofits are not even aware of Google Grants existence and what it can offer them. Contrarily, bigger companies and nonprofits are taking full advantage of what Google Grants has to offer. The same can be said for small and big businesses. Big business utilizes SEO for all that it is worth, while small businesses don’t have the time, awareness, or resources to research and use SEO.
